THE SCIENCE PANEL: Jeremy Eckstein, Head Investment Strategist for Meridian Art Partners

Jeremy%20Eckstein1.jpgJeremy Eckstein became involved in the art market in 1979, when he joined Sotheby’s to support to the Trustees of the British Railways Pension Fund following their decision to invest part of their portfolio into art. As head of research he developed Sotheby’s Index of art prices, contributed regular columns to Barron’s (and later to Forbes) and created and wrote Sotheby’s own Art Market Bulletin.

He left Sotheby’s in 1990 to set up his own consultancy, working closely with individual dealers and independent advisors, developing solutions for investment clients. He undertakes the regular members’ surveys on behalf of the Society of London Art Dealers, and in 2005 he was commissioned by TEFAF to undertake research into the economic impact of art fairs (pub. 2006). In 2004/05 he was a member of the team of independent experts assembled by the Dutch bank, ABN Amro, to evaluate potential constituents for a fund of art funds initiative.

Mr. Eckstein now works with Meridian Art Partners, where he is responsible for formulating investment strategy, portfolio management and for spearheading all necessary research efforts. He also lectures on art and business for Sotheby’s Institute on their MA in Art Business course in London and Singapore, as well as for the IESA in Paris. He lives and works in London.
